Virginia Tech Wellness Team

The Virginia Tech Wellness Team

Wellness – ‘The quality or state of being healthy in body and mind’
Team – ‘a number of persons associated in some joint action’
(From Dictionary.com)

Relationship Issues, Emotional Health, Physical Wellness and Financial Security were the topics presented to employees of VT Dining Programs in early January by the newly formed Virginia Tech Wellness Team.  The team, including representatives from Human Resources, the Women’s Center and VA Cooperative Extension, believes that wellness takes many forms ‘in body, mind and spirit’, and offers related programs for employees across campus.   These presentations are available upon request and cover topics such as:

•         Personal and emotional issues which can present workplace challenges, along with information and resources to address those concerns

•         Increased awareness of health risks, along with the promotion of healthy and well balanced life styles and provision of opportunities for life style change

•         Personal financial management such as survival budgeting, identity theft and practical savings tips

•         Relationship issues at work and at home which can affect well being - learn about healthy versus unhealthy relationships and resources for support

The Wellness Team is able to work with supervisors to present these programs, or to design others, that will meet needs particular to a department.
