Floyd County Recreation Department Summer Programs
Phone: 745-9363. Offers tee ball, softball, and baseball. Starts the third week in April and runs through July.

Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Summer Programs
Phone: 382-6975. Wide variety of sport and recreational programs including: Outdoor Recreation Adventure Camp (week-long, 8:30-5, Ages 11-15); swim lessons; water aerobics; drama and dance camps; football; golf; men's and women's softball; Youth Tours; kayaking, canoeing; and outdoor pursuits.

Week-long Play Camps throughout the summer for ages 6-10 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday. Activities include: field trips, theme parties, arts and crafts, drama, nature, music, and sports.

Sciences (and more arts)

Say YES to science!  

This MII/NSF sponsored program allows children age 10 and 11 to explore cutting-edge technology by preparing demonstrations in VT labs on the afternoons of June 23, 24, and 25.  The student teams then present their demonstrations at Blacksburg’s street fair, Steppin’ Out, on the afternoon of August 7.  As an NSF funded program, there is no participation fee.  For further information contact Maggie Bump at mbump@vt.edu or 540-231-4675

iD Tech Camp
For ages 7-17 - Weeklong day and overnight technology programs are customized for beginner through advanced skill sets. Students may register for one or several weeks (one course per week) in summer camps including Video Game Creation, 3D Modeling, Video Editing, Programming, Robotics, Flash® Animation, and specialty teen programs like the iD Gaming Academy and Documentary Filmmaking in Spain. All-Arts & Sciences Camp
(336) 256-CALL, (866) 334-CALL, info@calldcl.com. The All-Arts & Sciences Camp, sponsored by UNCG's Division of Continual Learning, is a week-long, residential summer camp for children ages 7-15. Designed to give quality instruction in the arts and sciences, the camp also includes recreation, values exploration, and citizenship components. Campers get to explore the things that interest them, hang out with some new friends, relax and play sports and other games, and stay on a college campus for an entire week. Counselors, instructors, nurses and directors are available 24 hours a day.The camps are designed to give quality instruction in the performing, visual and literary arts as well as physical and behavioral sciences. The week-long adventure also includes recreation, values exploration, and citizenship. There are a total of 40 courses available, although not all are offered on the VT campus. Imagination 2009
Imagination 2009 is an exciting summer experience for rising 7th and 8th graders.  This is engineering and science based summer camp is aimed at increasing the interest in science and engineering among middle school students.   There are two one week sessions in July - from July 6 - 10 and 13 - 17 offered by the Center for Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) at Virginia Tech. C-Tech (computers and technology at Virginia Tech)
For rising 11th and 12th grade women currently enrolled in VA high schools. Hands-on activities will make engineering, math and science more exciting.

Upward Bound and Talent Search
Upward Bound at Virginia Tech
is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and is designed to encourage and prepare high school students to pursue a college education. Upward Bound accomplishes this goal through educational, cultural, and social experiences.You are eligible to apply to Upward Bound if:
(1) You attend one of the schools served in our target area, have completed at least the eighth grade, and are not a senior in high school, (2) your family's income is considered equal to or lower than the figures set by the U.S. Bureau of the Census (3) and/or neither of your parents graduated from a four year college.
Talent Search is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to encourage students and non-students to complete high school and to pursue a college education. Educational, cultural, and social experiences throughout the year help us to accomplish this goal.You are eligible to apply to Talent Search if:

The Achievement Center Summer 2009 Program

Open to students diagnosed as having a learning disability or Attention Deficit Disorder, as well as children who need extra help in the areas of reading, spelling, or arithmetic. Children suspected of having learning disabilities may benefit also. Includes instruction and recreational swimming. Parents provide transportation.

Pools

Blacksburg Aquatic Center: Call 961-1852 for information. Offering indoor recreational swimming, hot tub, sauna, and water aerobics classes to members and non-members for small fee. Schedule of swimming lessons available mid-May. Fee for lessons varies. Nonmembers have small fee and restricted hours for recreational swimming:

Blacksburg Country Club: Call 552-9165 for information. Pool opens full time in early June with lessons beginning in mid-June..

Frog Pond: Call 382-6975 for information. Offering swim lessons for 6 months 8 years. Register by mail or at the Recreation office. Also offering Beach Blast 2006, water aerobics, rentals for parties, and Friday Night Open swims.

Great Oaks Country Club: Call 745-2189 for information. Pool for members, non-members can pay daily fee. Swimming lessons offered to members and non-members. Schedule out June 1st. Pool opens Memorial Day weekend.

Piedmont Pool: Call 953-2888 for information. MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED. Opens Memorial Day weekend. Closed on Mondays. Call for membership information.
