The Emergency Home Repair Program provides repairs such as roofing, electrical, plumbing and safety improvements to increase the self-sufficiency and quality of living conditions for low income families.

Builds simple, decent, affordable housing in partnership with selected qualifying homeowners and community volunteers.
HIP (Homeless Intervention Program) 540-382-6186
Provides no-interest loans for mortgages and grants to help with the payment of temporary rent and deposit assistance to eligible people in the NRV who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. A Homeless Counselor assists approved applicants with a self-sufficiency plan. (NRCA program)

Provides transportation services to and from nutrition programs, non-emergency medical and shopping trips for elderly and handicapped individuals with no access to transportation; delivers hot meals once a day to homebound persons; provides transportation to people with sensory or physical disabilities.

Distributes new and used clothing to persons in need throughout the New River Valley; United Way funds provide two sets of new school clothes to disadvantaged children in Radford City through the August Kids Program.

Provides a free, nutritious, & hot noon meal five days a week, year-round to economically disadvantaged persons and families.

Offers confidential pregnancy & birth parent counseling services free of charge; provides temporary foster care for children; handles adoption services for prospective adoptive parents, including home studies, adoptive placements and post placement supervision.

An advocacy group for children & families in the NRV, their mission is to protect children from abuse and strengthen families through advocacy, education, and community partnerships; programs include CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Parent Education and community education for child abuse prevention.

Provides shelter and counseling for adult and child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; provides a 24-hour crisis hotline; provides court-related victim assistance.

Provides care coordination services to pregnant women and children from birth to age seven who come from low-income families and lack access to medical care; assists the entire family by addressing issues such as housing, nutrition, education, employment, and parenting skills. (NRCA program)

Trains volunteer tutors to provide free, confidential, and individualized tutoring to adults in basic reading and writing, and English as a Second Language (ESL) in the New River Valley; operates two learning centers (Christiansburg and Radford) and provides tutoring offices in Pearisburg, Pulaski, Blacksburg, and Floyd.
